Locomotives in service consumed too much fuel and generated thick smoke when climbing up the hills
White Pass Railroad Company, USA
Equipment: Rail Locomotives
Polytron Fuel Conditioner (FC)
Locomotives that were used in White Pass rout consumed high volumes of fuel and generated thick smoke when climbing up the hill, which was unacceptable.
The Polytron Solution
Polytron Fuel Conditioner was added to the fuel of one of the locomotives out of a locomotive consist of three locomotives to monitor the difference in fuel consumption and generation of smoke. The fuel consumption in the locomotive with Polytron FC went down by about 25%, and the exhaust smoke was cleaned up by at least 50%.
“I believe if we would use also MTC in the engines of the locomotives we would get even better results. We are planning to use both products in our locomotives” stated Carey L. Dorn, Chief Mechanic of the company.
