The Challenge
Bucket Excavator is one of the heavy-duty machines that operate in the quarry where coal is excavated. The operating conditions are very harsh due to heat, dust moisture and heavy loads. The excavator nominal capacity is 1800 cubic meters per hour. This excavator went through an overhaul which included disassembly and reconstruction of angular ball bearing from a wear strip, that was showing signs of failure since it was resisting rotational motion of the wear strip. This required disassembling of the large bearing, taking it to a workshop, cleaning it, filling with grease, taking it back to the site and assembling it back onto the equipment, resulting with major downtime and loss of production. This problem repeated itself almost every 6 months.
The Polytron Solution
When in June 2012 the bearing failed again, the company decided to lubricate the bearing with Polytron PL and Polytron EP-2 Lithium Complex Grease , that by then have proven themselves as very effective in some other equipment in the mine. Since then until March 2014, (when this report was written) the bearing worked smoothly with no interruptions with just routine maintenance.
Customer Feedback
"We are pleased to inform that the use of Polytron technology in angular bearing saved us a lot of money on production volumes. We decided to expand the use of Polytron to the most problematic equipment in the mine and later on to all of the equipment" wrote the quarry production manger.
